Banjarmasin, S Kalimatan (ANTARA) - South Kalimantan Trade Office recorded the export value of local craft products reached 679 million US dollars (USD) in 2024.
"The main destination countries are United States, Japan, Netherlands, China, and Taiwan," said Head of Domestic Trade Development of the South Kalimantan Trade Office Sutikno when confirmed here on Tuesday.
He said the achievement of export value indicated that South Kalimantan crafts have high competitiveness to attract global market.

Among South Kalimantan's craft and textile products that have penetrated global market is Sasirangan fabric from Tanah Laut District exported to Philippines and Thailand, as well as purun or sedge grass crafts that are in demand by the world market.
South Kalimantan's craft and textile products, he expounded, have high cultural uniqueness and aesthetic value. However, support is needed to improve craftmen's understanding of global trends and right design strategies to be worthy of export.
For that reason, the Trade Office provides training on opportunities and development of local craft and textile design for export market for a number of micro, small and medium enterprises (UMKM).
"The aim is to increase insightand knowledge of business actors about export strategy through development of craft and textile design," he said.
Sutikno emphasized that the provincial governemnt of South Kalimantan is committed to advancing the local creative economy and expanding the access of local business actors to the world market as a long-term strategy.
