Banjarmasin, S Kalimatan (ANTARA) - The Syamsudin Noor Banjarmasin Airport in Banjarbaru City, South Kalimantan, is exploring potential international flight routes, after it recovered status as international airport.
"We make intensive communicationn with a number of airlines who are interested in opening international routes," said General Manager of Syamsudin Noor Airport Khaerul Assidiqi in Banjarbaru, Sunday.
He said Malaysia and Singapore are the most open route to be explored considering the two countries are quite popular.
In fact, these two countries are the most favorite destination desired by the people in South Kalimantan if international flights are available.
Khaerul said of course this move requires support from the government and people in South Kalimantan to encourage international air traffic to and from South Kalimantan to grow and develop.
International connectivity is also believed to encourage economic growth, trade and tourism to progress.
Previously, the government through the Indonesian Minister of Transportation's Decree No. KM 30 of 2025 determined Syamsudin Noor Airport recovered international status.
It was the resul of a long process to ensure the readiness of infrastructure and facilities at the airport to meet the requirements of international flight services.
Including the support from all related ministries as the basis for application submitted by the Governor of South Kalimantan H Muhidin to the Ministry of Transportation.
